How is science developing in Kazakhstan?

The development of science in Kazakhstan is one of the country’s strategically important priorities. To this end, the government is providing comprehensive support to young scientists, offering wide opportunities for their professional growth and scientific research.

 

Scientific Grants and Funding

Within the framework of the “Young Scientist” program, more than 2,000 scientific projects have been implemented over the past three years. The volume of state funding for scientific research for 2025–2027 has been increased to 531.1 billion tenge. In addition, the salaries of employees of scientific organizations have increased by 18%, and the additional payment for specialists with academic degrees has been raised to 50 MCI (Monthly Calculation Index).

 

Housing Program for Young Scientists

In 2024, 315 young scientists were provided with housing: 290 under a special mortgage program, and 25 received housing for free. In 2025, another 36 young scientists received housing under the state housing program.

 

International Internships

Kazakhstani scientists have the opportunity to improve their qualifications in leading global research centers. To date, 1,475 scientists have completed internships abroad. Additionally, each year, 500 researchers gain experience at international scientific research centers.

 

Scientific Developments and Innovations

Kazakhstani scientists are making significant contributions to various fields by applying their research in practice:

  • Black selenium – a new metallurgical technology developed in Balkhash
  • DVC drug – an innovative biological drug aimed at destroying cancer cells
  • Kazakhstani medical implants – domestic developments for traumatology, neurosurgery, and oncology
  • “Saqtau” anti-corrosion coating – a corrosion-resistant material for the metallurgical industry
  • KazLLM large language model – an innovative project for developing AI systems in the Kazakh language

 

State initiatives aimed at developing science in Kazakhstan contribute to the professional growth of researchers and provide them access to world-class research.
